In 1978 werd met de aanleg van de Oesterdam het archeologisch monument gedeeltelijk ontoegankelijk gemaakt. Bij vergelijking van topografische kaarten van 1916 met de situatie na de aanleg van de Dam toonde Mackor aan dat deze Oesterdam recht over de restanten van de oude stad is aangelegd. Hierdoor zal toekomstig archeologisch onderzoek bemoeilijkt zijn.
