Zur Gemeindefläche gehört das gesamte Einzugsgebiet des Giglerbachs, der im Kessel des Bettlachbergs an den Hängen der Wandflue und des südlich vorgelagerten Bettlachstockes (1299 m ü. M.) entspringt. Im Nordwesten reicht das Gebiet bis auf die Höhen des Grenchenbergs auf der Antiklinalen der ersten Jurakette. Die östliche Grenze verläuft über weite Strecken entlang des Brügglibachs, eines linken Zuflusses der Aare. Von der Gemeindefläche entfielen 1997 12 % auf Siedlungen, 39 % auf Wald und Gehölze, 47 % auf Landwirtschaft und etwas mehr als 2 % war unproduktives Land. Von den 12,193 km² Gemeindegebiet entfallen 0,2 km² auf fliessende Gewässer (in erster Linie die Aare) und nur 0,002 km² auf stehende Gewässer (Erlimoosweiher an der Grenze zu Selzach).
