Bárðarbunga
Die Bárðarbunga (Bardarbunga, [ˈb̥aurðarˌb̥uŋg̥a] ) ist ein subglazialer Zentralvulkan mit Caldera unter dem Gletscher Vatnajökull in Island. Sie erreicht eine Höhe von 2010 m, womit sie der zweithöchste Berg Islands ist. Mit den angeschlossenen Spaltensystemen bildet sie auch das gleichnamige Vulkansystem. Die bisher letzte Eruption des Vulkans dauerte von August 2014 bis Februar 2015.

Der Vaglaskógur im Norden von Island ist eines der größten Waldgebiete der Insel. Hier wachsen vor allem Birken, die für isländische Verhältnisse ungewöhnliche Höhen erreichen. Der Wald ist ein Naturschutzgebiet und ein beliebtes Touristenziel. Es liegt in der Gemeinde Þingeyjarsveit.
