Carl Friedrich von Wiebeking benennt die Hofschaft auf seiner Charte des Herzogthums Berg 1789 als Roth. Aus ihr geht hervor, dass der Ort zu dieser Zeit Teil der Honschaft Vilkerath im Kirchspiel Overath war.
