Nevada

Nevada features a diverse and dramatic topography characterized by its mountainous regions, vast deserts, and unique geographical formations. The state lies primarily within the Great Basin, where the terrain is shaped by the Basin and Range province, characterized by numerous parallel mountain ranges and valleys. The Sierra Nevada mountains, which form the western border with California, host the state's highest peak, Boundary Peak, reaching an elevation of 13,147 feet (4,007 meters). Meanwhile, southern Nevada includes portions of the Mojave Desert, known for its stark beauty and distinctive flora such as the Joshua tree. The Great Basin Desert occupies much of northern and central Nevada, featuring arid landscapes interspersed with rugged mountain ranges. This combination of elevation and lowland regions contributes to Nevada's classification as the driest state in the U.S., with a mean elevation of about 5,500 feet (1,676 meters).
